भाव प्रकाशम् - शूलम्

कूष्माण्डं तनु कृत्वा तु छित्त्वा घर्मे विशोषयेत् । स्थाल्यां निक्षिप्य तत् सर्वं पिधानेन पिधाय च ॥

चुल्ल्यां निवेश्य वह्निञ्च ज्वालयेत् कुशलो जनः । यथा तन्न भवेद्भस्म किन्त्वङ्गारो दृढो भवेत् ॥

तदा निर्वापयेच्छीतं सर्वथा चूर्णितं तु तत् । माषद्वयमितं यावत् शुण्ठीचूर्णेन मिश्रितम् ॥

जलेन भक्षयेन्नित्यं महाशूलाकुलो नरः । असाध्यमपि यच्छूलं तदप्येतेन शाम्यति ॥

Wintermelon should be cut into small thin pieces , dried under the sun. Dried pieces are placed in a pot and covered with a lid. Now put it on the stove and light a fire surroundind the pot. When the wintermelon pieces get burnt and become like embers, but not completely burnt into ashes but remain hard, then cool them and grind them into powder. By mixing 2 mashes of this powder with dry ginger powder and consuming it with water, even severe and incurable colic can be cured.

पेटेके बारीक बारीक टुकड़े करके धूपमें सुखालें और उन्हें एक हाण्डीमें भरकर उसके ऊपर ढक्कन ढकदें । अब इसको चूल्हेपर चढ़ाकर उसके चारो और अग्नि जलावें । जब पेठेके टुकड़े जलकर अंगारके समान हो जाय, किन्तु बिल्कुल भस्म न हो जाय बल्कि कठिन रहें तब उन्हें ठण्डा करके चूर्ण करें। इसमें से २ माशे चूर्ण सोंठके चूर्णमें मिलाकर जलके साथ सेवन करने से भयंकर और असाध्य शूल भी नष्ट हो जाता है।
